Agrupamento de Escolas de Benfica is a large school cluster integrating five schools from pre-school education to basic and secondary education. We have 240 teachers and 2890 students, 8% attending upper secondary courses: Science &Technology, Languages & Humanities, Socioeconomic Sciences and Visual Arts. Our school territory is located in Benfica, a neighbourhood in the periphery of Lisbon, with 36821 inhabitants. Only 20% are younger than 25. Our students’ socioeconomic backgrounds vary: some come from a “prioritised educational territory” offering special educational measures to prevent dropout and failure, while others come from middle class families.
