The “My Europe” Workshop took place in Madrid on 25 and 26 September 2013 under the patronage of Mr José Ignacio Wert Ortega, Spanish Minister of Education, Culture and Sport.

During the first day (“Europe Day”), 30 students from six local high schools had the opportunity to meet HRH Letizia Princess of Asturias at Zarzuela Palace. Afterwards, these students went to the IE University to listen to European talks and to share their opinions with prominent guests from business, academia and politics. Among the speakers were Santiago Iñiguez de Onzoño (President of the IE University and Dean of IE Business School), Phillipp Bagus (Professor for Economics, Universidad de Madrid), Jesús Sotero Fernández Caballero (Deputy Director for International Affairs, Immigration and Aliens Policy, Ministry of Interior) and Rosa Duca Tello (Chief Economist PBC Spain, Deutsche Bank SAE). In the afternoon the young participants went on a guided tour of the IE campus before taking part in working group sessions with university students. The results of the group work were presented in a plenary session. Kathrin Leeb (Treasurer and Member of the Board, ICCA) moderated this Europe Day.

On the second day (“Journalism Day”), the students were invited to visit the premises of the El País newspaper and to gain insight into news and essay writing. High-profile journalists prepared them for the international writing contest.
